This 5 Days Rwanda primates safari sets off from Kigali to Nyungwe national park for chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk experience and lastly mountain gorilla tracking in volcanoes national park and cultural visit to the iby’iwacu community visit.
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
In the morning after breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up from the hotel and transfer north of Rwanda to volcanoes national park through rolling hills to the home of great apes. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge at 5 volcanoes lodge
Day 2: Mountain gorilla tracking and cultural visit
Have an early morning breakfast and your safari guide will drive you to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing, remember to carry your packed lunch and enough drinking water as time for tracking gorillas is not guaranteed. The activity may take a longer time than expected depending on the movement of the gorillas. However, it’s a rewarding experience, embark on the exercise and you will spend an hour with them observing, after return to the lodge for lunch and refreshment. In the evening you will visit iby’iwachu cultural village for a Rwandan cultural experience where you take part in the traditional plays and dances and storytelling. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at day 1
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe national park
In the morning after breakfast, you will transfer to Nyungwe forest, along the way you will visit Lake Kivu and relax at the beach have lunch and proceed to Nyungwe national park. The forest is among the oldest in East Africa protecting 12 primate species including chimpanzees and world-class canopy walk. You will arrive in the evening and check in the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at a luxurious Nyungwe house.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
Have morning breakfast and later go for briefing before chimpanzee tracking exercise, you will then enter the forest in search for the chimpanzee, the experience is rewarding while you spot other primates including the white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys. Spend time with the chimps as they play around, make nests, feed among others. You will then return t the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon the canopy walk, one of the finest in the world walking 50 meters high above in the middle of the forest. You will be able to spot more primate species at a close range as well as various bird species. Dinner and overnight on day 3
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali city and departure
Have breakfast at leisure then embark on a 4 hours’ drive back to Kigali city with en-route visit to Nyanza king’s palace and Rwanda national museum in Huye and Murambi genocide museum. Arrive in Kigali and also visit the craft shops and the Kigali genocide memorial. Have lunch and drop off at the hotel or airport for departure.
