This 7 Days Uganda Rwanda primates tour includes chimpanzee tracking, canopy walk, mountain gorilla tracking in Rwanda and Uganda as well boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi. The 7 days safari will start and end in the Kigali capital of Rwanda.
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe national park
Upon arrival you will meet with your safari guide and drive south of Rwanda to Nyungwe national park about 6 hours’ drive. Enroute visit to Nyanza kings place and Butare museum. Nyungwe forest is among the oldest canopy forest in the east African region, the forest is inhabited by 12 primate species including chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkey, red tailed monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, owl cheeked monkeys, baboons among others. Other species include over 300 bird species including 27 endemics. You will reach in the evening check in the lodge for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest lodge(luxury) Nyungwe top view hotel(midrange)
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and afternoon canopy walk
In the morning you will have breakfast and you driver guide will take you to uwinka visitors center for registration and briefing, you will then embarkon the forest walk in search of chimpanzee, along the way watch out for other attractions like birds and other primates. You will then find a troop of about 100 chimpanzees climbing trees, building nests, feeding and playing. Spend time observing and later return to the lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will gofor adventurous canopy walk which involves walking from one end of the forest to another viewing bird, and other species of primates. Return to the lodge for overnight at day 1
Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes national park
Enjoy your morning breakfast and check out of the lodge, transfer to volcanoes national park in musanze district. The drive will take 6- 7 hours with enroute stop over for lunch. Reach early afternoon and check in the lodge. Optional nature walks outside the park. Dinner and overnight stay 5 volcanoes, Lebambou Gorilla Lodge, DaVinci gorilla lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking and cultural experience
Early morning breakfast and you drive to the park center for briefing, you will be assembled in groups of 8 and then drive to the starting point after briefing. Embark on the memorial experience of finding mountain gorillas, once you reach out to them, spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for hot lunch. In the evening you will visit iby’iwachu cultural village, where you will be entertained by the ex-poachers through traditional dances alike intore and Kinyarwanda dances. Dinner and overnight day 3
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi forest national park
Wake up to early morning break fast and depart to Bwindi forest national park, home to over 400 mountain gorillas. You will cross over to Bwindi through kabale-katuna border along scenic views of kigezi highlands. Reach early evening and check in your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at mahogany springs(luxury) Bakiga lodge(deluxe).
Day 6: Double gorilla tracking and transfer to lake Bunyonyi
Early in the morning, you will have breakfast, prepare your right gear, carry your packed lunch, enough drinking, and your driver-guide will drive you to the park quarters for briefing before gorilla tracking. You will then be allocated a gorilla family and the park guide and ranger will lead you into the forest in search of mountain gorillas, remember mountain gorillas are wild and time for trekking is not guaranteed. When you finally find them, spend one full hour with them, following them, taking photos and videos, on return to the starting point you will transfer to lake Bunyonyi, take a boat on the lake touring the 29 islands, and fishing villages. Day 7: Departure
On this day you will wake up early, have breakfast and transfer to Kigali, reach on time and do a brief city tour visiting local markets, craft shops, Nyamata genocide memorial. Drop off at the hotel or airport for departure.
