Hiking at Nyungwe for
Canopy walk
One of the most frightening activities to do at Nyungwe forest is the canopy walk. The canopy walk is one of its kind in the whole of East Africa and Africa at large. You will enjoy a 2-hour troll of 50meteres above the forest on a 200meter long walk. You will have a great view of this beautiful rain forest as you watch several birds, monkeys and butterflies in an aerial view. Chimpanzee tracking
Nyungwe forest National Park is home to a large number of primates after Kibale National park in Uganda. Nyungwe forest can be approached without traveling a long distance after your gorilla encounter at Volcanoes national park. The forest has a very high number of chimps and other primates in East Africa. A group of 8 people is allowed to track habituated chimps and are allowed to spend one full hour with them as they learn about their behavior in their natural forest. Chimp tracking in Nyungwe starts at about 5am and will require you to wake up early for this adventure.
Bird watching
Nyungwe forest is a bird haven with over 300 bird species recorded and 27 of them are endemic to the Albertine rift. Bird species to look out for include; the purple breasted and blue headed sunbird, Rwenzori Turaco and the large blue Turaco.
