3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Tour

BEST TIME TO VISIT GORILLAS IN BWINDI

Gorilla tracking is undoubtedly one of Uganda’s major tour activity in the impenetrable forest of Bwindi national park. The gorillas live in the mountain of Bwindi forest and Mgahinga gorilla national Park which is part of the Virunga mountains. Uganda harbors more than half of the world’s surviving mountain Gorillas and this gives it (Uganda) the upper hand in being the biggest Gorilla trekking destination in the world. Gorillas can be visited any time of the year but the best time to visit is the peak season when there are less chances of rain as you track the mountain Gorillas.

Peak Season

JUNE TO SEPTEMBER

This is normally a dry season to easily track gorillas and do other tour activities around the country. Being forest where the mountain gorillas live, you will still need to carry your rain jacket because it may rain any time.

DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY

This is also another great period for gorilla tracking and other wildlife sightings and other outdoor activities like hiking sand climbing. These months are reasonably drier than and Uganda normally gets too many visitors coming through for gorilla tracking and other wild life activities. We recommend booking gorilla permits months before your travel date to avoid missing due to the very high demand for permits during this period.

Low season

MARCH TO MAY

This period is known as a wet season with much rains that make the tracking conditions very difficult for the visitors. You can still track the gorillas but expect to be interrupted by rains at any time during your journey to meet the gorillas. Good news about the rain in Uganda is that even after a heavy down pour, you will be assured of the sun to resume your trekking with ease.

OCTOBER TO NOVEMBER

This is also another wet period for Uganda especially for those interested in tracking the gorillas in Bwindi and Mgahinga. This however doesn’t mean that you can’t track the gorillas, but expect some difficulty moving in muddy trails and slippery vegetation. The gorillas are a bit hard to tress since they’ll be resting from the rains but it’s a good experience on its own as you hustle to find them.
