Mountain Gorillas
Uganda is home to the highest population of mountain Gorillas in the world residing in the Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks. Gorilla is the largest living primate in the world and can only be seen in the three countries of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC. Gorilla tracking permits are issued to the guests intending to watch the Gorillas and each country charges differently. For the case of Uganda, nonresidents are required to pay $700 per person, Foreign residents pay $600 and East African residents pay 250,000Ugx per person. Enjoy a mystical encounter watching face to face the mountain Gorillas as they go about the daily life in the forest.
Chimpanzee tracking
Tracking the chimpanzees live in the Kibale National park which is Uganda’s primate capital in the western parts of this landlocked country. Kibale National Park is home to over 1500 chimps which is the highest number in Africa for chimps staying in one place. The chimps live in groups of 80 to 100 and sleep in nests in the evening. They feed on seasonal forest fruits anf leaves of the vegetation of the protected areas. A visit to Kibale will also give you a chance to watch up to 13 primate species in one place. The primates include; red tailed monkey, the black and white colobus monkey, Baboons and several bird species. The chimps are our closes relatives with up to 98% DNA like humans. Their playful life makes them some of the most interesting primates to interact with during your trip.
Variety of wildlife
Uganda is blessed with a variety of wildlife ranging from the large herds of elephants, buffaloes, hippos, lions, hyenas, wild dogs and many primate species among others. You will have a close view of these beautiful wildlife as you experience special game drives through the parks with guides.
Murchison Falls
Murchison falls is found in the North West parts of Uganda. It is undoubtedly the most beautiful scenery in Uganda watching the Nile River force its way through a 7 meter gorge before exploding to the overflow down wards. Murchison falls National Park which is Uganda’s oldest and largest protected area was named after this magnificent waterfall. Millions of travelers flock this park to watch the falls and to catch up with a variety of Wildlife that call this protected area their home. Some of the activities at Murchison falls include; game viewing and a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls.
Culture
Uganda has over 58 different tribes of people living in the different areas of the country. Most of these tribes have unique languages and cultural beliefs based in the areas they dominate. The Baganda dominate the central with their traditional king called Kabaka. Other areas of interest include the Karamajong and the IK people in the north, the Batooro, Banyoro, Banyankole and Batwa in western Uganda are also interesting cultures to watch out for in Uganda. Traditional performances are organized for the visitors and sometimes visitors are free to participate to have a feel of the performances of the local people.
Source of the Nile
Uganda is the source of the longest river in the world originating from the Eastern district of Jinja. The Nile originates from Lake Victoria in the Eastern side away from Kampala. The source of the Nile can be explored on a boat ride as you continue to enjoy the lake watching different activities taking place on the lake. Some of the tour activities at the source of Nile include white water rafting, spot fishing, golfing and boat cruise.
