Safari Packing List

Safari Packing List

Uganda has 10 national parks some of which are Savannah parks, forested parks and others mountainous parks and 12 wildlife reserves. All these call for different safari parking lists given the different terrain, vegetation cover or eco system.

Savannah parks include Queen Elizabeth National park, Murchison falls national park, Kidepo valley national park and lake Mburo national park. Forested parks include Kibale Forest national park, Semuliki national park and Bwindi Impenetrable national park. Mountainous national parks include Rwenzori national park, Mgahinga Gorilla national park and Mt Elgon National park. However, there are those cross-cutting requirements that every client must carry or take into consideration while in Uganda or on any Safari

  • Passport, Yellow fever vaccination certificate, travel guide book and itinerary. Some of these are obvious but it’s a reminder that every person coming to Uganda on a vacation should have.

Other requirements among others include;

  • Clothes; You must carry the right clothes given the activity you are going to do. If you are doing hiking or nature walks, chimpanzee trekking and gorilla trekking, you need long sleeved shirts and water proof trousers, long stockings tied in the trousers to stop the spread of red ants onto the body, and light rain jackets.
  • Our weather is friendly some places are cold but bearable like Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla national park, and so you will need heavy jackets or sweaters to keep you warm. Also, if you are hiking and spending days along the mountains in camps, you will need them too.
  • Shoes: You will need hiking shoes especially if you are hiking mountains or gorilla trekking because of its rugged terrain sometimes or any comfortable walking shoes if it’s a simple nature walk
  • Hut, sunblock, sun glasses since you will be outdoor for much of your time on the safari
  • Preventive pharmaceuticals like anti-malarial, diarrhea medicine, re- hydration sachets, eye drops, cold medication among others.
  • Insect repellent because some places have tsetse flies that might affect your body. Australian RID is good at protecting you against tsetse flies and other insects as well.
  • Cameras to take good photos, and binoculars to sight some wild animals that may not be in close range
  • Alternative battery and power bank to keep you connected.
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Anti-septic hand wipes

These are just a few requirements that you must carry but there are other several requirements you need to carry for personal use during the entire time you are on a vacation not necessary during any tourist activity. However, you need to asks your travel agent the weather conditions at the time of your safari such that he gives you appropriate advise on what you must carry for you to have a convenient and memorable safari.
