What are the chances of sporting the gorillas? Will I be able to see the gorillas? Is it a must to see the Gorillas? These are some of the major questions you will have as a traveler as you book your gorilla tracking permit.
There are very high chances of seeing the gorillas up to 99% due to a number of factors that keep the park rangers assured of their presence.
Pre tracking team
A team of trackers is sent to rack the location of gorillas before the visitors set off in search for the Gorillas in the forest. These trackers keep in touch with the team on the ground with visitors on radio call or any other means of communication to give them direction until they meet. This is done to ascertain the exact location of the gorilla family being tracked and to know which trails to take.
Previous location
The gorillas are also tracked based on where they spent their night the previous day. Trackers will base on this to determine which direction they could have taken until they are found. UWA researchers are trained in such a manner that they can locate the gorilla family for visitors to be able to see them.
There have not been any cases of missing to see the Gorillas in a very longtime, all the guests that pay for the Gorilla permits in all the gorilla trekking destination are assured of seeing the them. Mgahinga is one place where the probability of seeing the gorillas was small because the Gorilla family there (Nyakagezi) was moving to Rwanda and back sometimes. This has however been settled because the family is now fully settled in Uganda and can be tracked by visitors.
